House Charities

Augustine House - St John’s Mission

Augustine house is proud to support Brent Foodbank which is part of the Trussell Trust. The Trussell Trust is a poverty charity founded on Christian principles. They work with people of all faiths and none, but are inspired by Jesus’ words:

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”

– Matthew 25:35-36

In 2016/17, Trussell Trust foodbanks gave 1,182,954 three-day emergency food supplies to people in crisis in the UK, with over 436,938 of these supplies having gone to children. Last year Augustine house fundraised £1500 for Brent Foodbank which will enable them to continue to offer services just when they are needed the most.

Benedict House - CAFOD

The charity we raise funds for in St. Benedict’s House is CAFOD. Representatives from CAFOD take Assemblies and lead PHSE sessions to keep us informed of current developments and projects. During Lent members of the house raise money by taking part in a wide range of events including fun runs, healthy cake sales, sponsored silences, football and basket tournaments. The total raised during Lent is typically over £2,000

Our House prayer is

“Living God,
We believe in a world made new,
Where mourning is turned into dancing and slaves are set free.
Open our hearts and teach us your compassion so that we may work for justice and peace.
Guide us as we work for your kingdom here on earth, that we may know your kingdom in heaven.

We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen”

Hume House - The Passage

Mrs B Campbell (Head of Hume House)

Hume House is unique in that it is named after Cardinal Archbishop Hume.    Throughout his life he remained a humble man preferring a monk’s habit instead of Cardinal’s robes and is particularly remembered for his work with the homeless, hence the choice of The Passage as the charity for Hume House to support.  The Passage runs the largest voluntary sector day centre for homeless people in London. Their mission is to provide resources which encourage, inspire and challenge homeless people to transform their lives.

The Passage fulfils its mission by providing:

  • homelessness prevention projects;
  • resource centre services;
  • outreach services;
  • hostel accommodation;

The pupils at St Gregory’s have donated sleeping bags, socks, gloves and hats to the Passage during the winter season as well as monies raised during lent.

Joseph House - St Joseph's Centre

Our house is named after St Joseph’s Pastoral Centre in Hendon which dedicates itself to educating, developing and supporting those with learning difficulties, many of whom have profound multiple disabilities. The Centre works with anyone who has a learning difficulty and requires help, regardless of faith, race, age, background or culture. All of the Joseph forms raise a substantial amount of money every year for St Joseph’s House during Lent.  A representative from St Joseph’s Centre comes in to school to receive the cheque and inform the students how the money will be spent.

We also received this letter:

Dear Students of St Joseph’s House.

I am writing to you to thank you for your generous donation of £ 1.943.27. You raised so much for us; we really appreciate your kindness.

Your fundraising will help us provide our centre and our students with more materials for the different classes, and will also help towards the printing expenses for our Christmas appeal.

Well Done Joseph House on all your excellent efforts this year both with your fund raising and of course winning Sports day.

Bernadette House - hcpt Pilgrimages to lourdes

Bernadette House is very proud to support our HCPT Group that is run from St. Gregory’s. In 1954 Dr Michael Strode brought a small group of young children who were either sick or had a disability with him to Lourdes. He wanted these children to experience a pilgrimage holiday. He wanted them to stay in a hotel, have a trip to the seaside and go on a pony ride in the Pyrenees while at the same time experience the very special place that Lourdes is. In 1956 HCPT was established and every Easter over 5000 people travel to take part in its Pilgrimage Holiday. We are very lucky to have our own HCPT group at St Gregory’s who travel at Easter and provide life changing holidays to children who may have physical, emotional, learning or social needs. There is no cost to the families of the children; the cost of the pilgrimage is covered through our fundraising activities.  Each year Bernadette House aim to raise enough money to cover the cost of three children through fundraising and sponsored events.

For more information on the life changing work that HCPT carries out please visit their website www.hcpt.org.uk

Mary House - St Luke's Hospice

Mary House continues to actively support their local charity, St. Luke’s Hospice, throughout the school year and particularly during Lent. Members of the Hospice fund raising team regularly attend school assemblies to talk about their work and how pupils can become more involved with the Hospice.

St Luke's Hospice

Pupils raise money in a variety of ways; sponsored activities, silences, runs, selling raffle tickets, cake sales, selling badges, etc. St. Luke’s invited a group of pupils to the Hospice, where they ran a workshop about fundraising and the work the Hospice does.At the end of Lent, we invite a Hospice representative into the school to be presented with a cheque for the year’s fundraising, which typically exceeds £2500 per year. Well done Mary House for your excellent efforts!
