COMMUNITY NEWS

For the last few years, pupils from St Gregory’s Catholic Science College, Uxendon Manor Primary School, The Mount Stewart Schools and BrightStart Childcare have been joined by local residents and businesses, as well as Councillor Colwill from Brent and Councillors Maru, Rabadia, Anderson and V Mitthani from Harrow to celebrate the switching on of Kenton’s festive lights by the Mayors of Brent and Harrow.

This event is coordinated by the Kenton Area Traders’ Association (KATA), who this year, due to the national lockdown as a result of Coronavirus, decided to create a virtual event to mark the occasion.

The Mayors of Brent and Harrow, as well as the Headteacher of Uxendon Manor Primary School, Jonathon Parry, sent messages of support and good will to the Kenton community for the festive season, whilst the Headteacher of St Gregory’s Catholic Science College, Andrew Prindiville and Gail Hovey, St Gregory’s Project Manager (also Secretary to the KATA), officiated at the switching on of the lights on 11th November.

This year, the KATA secured a grant from Brent’s Love Where You Live scheme to fund the illumination of the lights along Kenton Road.  The lights were switched on in time to celebrate Diwali and will remain on throughout the festive season.

The festive lights illumination and messages from Cllr Ezeajugh, Mayor of Brent and Cllr Parekh, Mayor of Harrow, as well as messages from the Traders’ Association and Headteachers of St Gregory’s and Uxendon Manor Primary have been recorded and made into a short video.
